NORTHERN MYSTICS HEAD TO MELBOURNE FOR PRE-SEASON PREPARATION

With the countdown to the start of the ANZ Premiership underway, the Mystics are heading to
Melbourne for pre season matches against the Mavericks and 2024 Suncorp Netball Grand Finalists,
Vixens.
This trip will give the Mystics the valuable opportunity to refine their game play, using the new 2025
rule innovations, including the two point shot, against top Australian teams that have been playing
this style of netball for years.
Mavericks General Manager Shae Bolton-Brown expressed her excitement about hosting the Mystics
in Melbourne.
“We’re really excited to be able to welcome the Mystics to Melbourne, for what will be a crucial part
of our final preparations before the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season gets underway”.
“We love being able to challenge ourselves against world-class netballers, and to continue the proud
tradition of on-court Trans Tasman netball rivalry.”
Northern Mystics Head Coach Tia Winikerei highlighted the significance of the trip in adapting to the
new rules being introduced in the 2025 ANZ Premiership.
“This will be the first time these rules come into play in our competition, so the experience in
Melbourne will fast-track our team’s learning and strategy implementation. The Mavericks and
Vixens both feature top international players and have been training since December.”
“With only three weeks of pre season preparation before we travel, we have a lot of work ahead of
us. However, we are always seeking ways to test ourselves against strong opposition who bring
different styles and intensity to the game. We can’t wait to take the court.”
The Vixens are also embracing the Trans-Tasman challenge.
“We’re really pleased to welcome the Mystics to Melbourne, it’s always exciting to take on a
different style of play and to give our fans the chance to watch international talent up close,” said
Melbourne Vixens General Manager Sharelle McMahon.
“Match play opportunities against quality opposition are invaluable as we get closer to our 2025
season kicking off, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The Northern Mystics wish to thank long time Mystics sponsors Peter and Fiona Thompson and
Barfoot and Thompson who have supported this kaupapa. We also wish to send our thanks and love
to Raewyn Henry for all her support in making this trip a reality. We couldn’t do it without you all.
