Phoenix Karaka to Captain Northern Mystics
The Northern Mystics are pleased to announce Phoenix Karaka as captain of the Northern Mystics for the 2019 ANZ Premiership.
This will be Karaka’s 2nd season with the Northern Mystics, having currently played for Southern Steel (2013 – 2015) and Central Pulse (2016 – 2016). Returning to the Auckland region in 2018 , she says it’s an honour to captain a team that she has always respected and wanted to play for since her childhood.
Head coach Helene Wilson said Karaka has proven herself as a passionate and exciting leader.
“Phoenix’s growth since coming home to the Northern Mystics has been an example of how true mana can influence others. She has 7 years’ experience in the ANZ competitions and has the knowledge and respect of her teammates to lead the Northern Mystics into a new look 2019 season”. Her passion for representing the Northern Zone, learning while growing her game, along with a belief in a new side that is showing promising signs in the pre-season makes 2019 even more exciting for fans of the Northern Mystics.
